A Bit of Airlie Beach History
Originally Airlie Beach was simply known as the town of Airlie. In 1935 a name for the town was needed, and Proserpine town chairman Robert Shepherd proposed Airlie, after the parish of Airlie, Scotland. The name was officially confirmed in the following year and remained unchanged until 1987, when it was renamed to Airlie Beach by the Council.

Airlie Beach Triathlon 2010
It is time for the annual triathlon at Airlie Beach! This year the Fish D'Vine triathlon will be held on 5th September. The main race comprises of a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run, with a separate race for junior and senior participants. The race will bring you through the many amazing sceneries of Airlie Beach, including the famous Airlie Beach boardwalk.

Big 4 Adventure Whitsunday Reef Festival - 21 to 24 October 2010
The Big 4 Adventure Whitsunday Reef Festival is a celebration of one of nature's most amazing natural wonders, the Great Barrier Reef.
The four-day festival held on Airlie Beach foreshore is jam-packed with exciting events. Live music, street parades, fireworks, family fun days, markets, competitions, sand sculpting and fashion shows are just a sample of what's included and the best thing - many of the events are FREE!
The festival caters for all ages with activities for families throughout the program culminating with the Family Fun Day on Sunday 24 October .
After hours there are fashion shows, cocktail parties and 'Beats on the Beach' for the older boys and girls. This year's musical talent includes The Twine, a tribal blues duo complemented by their dynamic son Obi Sun, who many may have seen on this year's season of Channel 7's Australia's Got Talent.
